This weekend my little sister wanted to work on some hand warmers for Christmas presents, we couldn't find any pattern that we absolutely loved, so I wrote my own! They are simple and elegant, plus they work up quick so that all makes for a great Christmas present! This pattern is worked in rounds that are joined after each round. to make it bigger or smaller just change the size of the initial chain to fit around the person's wrist loosely. Here is the pattern:
Row 1: chain 31, slip st into first ch, ch 2 (31)
Row 2: dc in each st around, sl st to join and ch 2 (31)
Row 3-8: dc in each st around, sl st to join and ch 2 (31)
Row 9: dc in next 15 st, inc, dc in next 15 st, sl st to join and ch 2 (32)
Row 10: dc in each st around, sl st to join and ch 2 (32)
Row 11: dc in next 30 st, ch 2 and turn (30)
Row 12: (going back the other way) dc in next 30 st, ch 2 and turn (30)
Row 13: dc in each st around, ch 2 and turn (30)
Row 14: dc in each st around, sl st to join (slip stitch to the other end you have been building up to complete the thumb hole), ch 2
Row 15: dc in each st around, sl st to join and ch 2 (30)
Row 16: dc in each st around, sl st to join
Row 17 (optional ruffle): *sl st, hdc, dc inc, hdc* repeat around to form the ruffle on the finger edge of the cuff, then attach your yarn to the bottom of the hand warmer to create a ruffle on the wrist end.
Tie off and weave in ends. You could easily add buttons for a cute detail.
